Essay 1
My name is Ayano Yokoyama. I was born in Uto, Kumamoto. I am a sophomore of the English department at Kumamoto Gakuen University. My birthday is January 21 and my blood type is B. I live in Yatsushiro now and it takes an hour to go to university. It makes me tired a little but I like talking with my friends so I look forward to go there. Doing something funny is very interesting and I usually do something like that. I’m not satisfied unless I do what I should do like assignment. I work part-time at a cram school and teach students English, Math and so on.
I like playing and watching sports very much especially basketball. I belonged to the basketball club for 8 years, which developed me as a person. I will never forget that we won the final match at the last tournament when we were junior high school students. I treasure my memories of basketball forever. I like playing the piano too and I took lessons on the piano for 8 years. My favorite singers are HY, Taylor Swift and so on. I am glad that I can play songs I like on the piano when I am free. Playing the piano makes me relax.
There are 4 people in my family, my father, my mother and my younger sister. My father is a high school teacher and teaches his students English and basketball. My mother is a cook for student in Primary school s and likes watching and cheering basketball games. My younger sister goes to high school and she practices basketball very hard to get a first prize in Kumamoto every day. So we are called basketball family.
I have been to New Zealand to do homestay and go to Unitec New Zealand University. That was the first time for me to go to abroad. I could make a great family and many friends from other countries. I learned that it doesn’t matter whether I can speak English well or not and how I should express myself. There is no Japanese in my class so I couldn’t communicate with other students without English. It enabled to improve my English skills.
Now I study English very hard to pass the exam to study abroad. I really want to learn normal English and speak English fluently but I have to study TOEFL to get a high score. I think both speaking English and getting knowledge is important. I want to work by making full use of English in the future. There are many good teachers and seniors at KGU and they give me some advice and tell me their experiences. I want to experience many things and grow up. (454 words)
